The idea to build a hotel in
Lansing Township’s Eastwood Towne Center isn’t a new one. According to Lansing Township Planning Director Steve Hayward, township officials and developers have been discussing the possibility since 2007.
Now that plans for a hotel have been announced, however, the idea is the only thing about the project that won’t be brand new for the Lansing area.
“There isn’t a
Hyatt brand hotel in town, and there aren’t any other four star hotels in Lansing either,” says Hayward.
The 128 room, $15 million Hyatt Hotel will bring a new class of lodging to the region, something that the township has heard again and again and which the area greatly needs.
“Every time we talk about a hotel at Eastwood through the years,” says Hayward, “the first question from people at the CVB and executives from insurance companies in town is, ‘Is it going to be a four star hotel?’”
Plans for the hotel have been approved by the Lansing Township Planning Commission and will soon go before the Township Board. Work is slated to begin on the development on September 12, the tenth anniversary of Eastwood Towne Center.
“This will be a great addition for us,” Hayward says. “The lifestyle center has never dropped below 97 percent occupancy and the restaurants are ranked among the best in the nation. There is a lot of evidence that it’s a good, safe investment.”
