Meridian Mall just became a little more fun.
Glowgolf, an indoor, glow-in-the-dark miniature golf company based Wichita, KS, has opened a new, 5,000 square foot location in the Okemos shopping center.
“This is our first venture in Michigan,” says John Wright, COO of Opry Glowgolf, which operates 40 to 50 locations nationwide. The company opened a Sterling Heights location at the same time as the Meridian Mall. “We like capitol cities and college towns because the economy is usually pretty solid.”
Wright and his business partner Reginald Boothe got into the mini golf business after Boothe took out a patent on glow-in-the-dark golf balls. The pair didn’t get much traction introducing night golfing at traditional golf courses, but indoor mini-golf turned out to be a hit.
“It’s just a good, wholesome family thing to do,” says Wright. “Everyone in the family can participate. I was having a good time [at the new Okemos location] watching families coming in and laughing and high five-ing and really having a good time.”
The Meridian Mall Glowgolf location opened in June. According to Wright, the location could expand into the neighboring storefront and offer extra entertainment games such as virtual reality rides, a laser maze and more in the future.
