Not every social media account deserves a reputation for endangering our collective mental health. Some accounts uplift our spirits. Here are a dozen social media accounts that capture beautiful views of life in Bay County.
Facebook- With 3,000 followers, it's likely you're already following the Bay City Department of Public Works. But we can’t create a list of the best local social media accounts without highlightng this one. Follow this Facebook page and you'll have a great source for updates on road construction projects (Henry Street should be done next week); community events (MyFlight tours are taking off from the James Clements Airport on Sun., Oct. 27); and much more.
Adam J. SalgatBay County Animal Control and Care Center has seen a steady increase in its save rate, earning statewide accolades and helping families discover beloved pets.- Bay County Employment Opportunities is more than a job board. Following this Facebook group also gives you a peek at what new businesses are coming to town and what companies are expanding. Job seekers and hiring companies alike post on this Facebook page.
- Love pictures of dogs and cats? Then you need to follow the Bay County Animal Services & Adoption Center Facebook page. The no-kill shelter will brighten your Facebook feed with adorable pictures several times a week.
- Ashley GervaisMike Jamrog, at right, and Keith Markstrom, at left, are among about 8,000 veterans who make their homes in Bay County. The pair were instrumental in opening the Veterans Workshop & Learning Center.
- The Bay Veterans Foundation’s projects including running the Veterans Workshop & Learning Center, Gold Star Family Memorial Monument, and Battery Park. On Facebook, the organization posts ways veterans can get help as well as classes open to the entire community.
- The Delta College Planetarium posts about its shows and special events, but this page also offers tips for backyard astronomers. You’ll learn about celestial events and what you can see in the night sky from your own home.
- Who doesn't like to look at pictures of old fire trucks and antique toys? You'll get plenty of both on the Antique Toy & Firehouse Museum Facebook page. The museum itself has limited hours, but the Facebook page is always available.

Even if you never set foot inside the museum at 321 Washington Ave., you’ll have a better understanding of our shared history by following this account. Plus, we’re pretty sure you’ll want to attend some of the events this account highlights.
- Another one to follow if you’re looking for something different to do is the Historic Masonic Temple. The temple, at 700 N. Madison Ave., hosts live performances; seasonal events (ghost tours are scheduled in October); and regular meet-ups for artists.
- Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival 2024 wrapped up in late September, but you can catch independent films and join fundraising events throughout the year. Follow this account for details and updates.
- Fall in love with your community when you visit Bay City MI Love. This account showcases beautiful photos and videos capturing the best Bay City has to offer.

- The Bay County Library System capitalizes on TikTok trends, but also showcases books, library events, and joins in with statewide library initiatives.
- Follow Go Great Lakes Bay for highlight reels from the area. If you want to feel proud of your community, this is a great place to go.
