After several years of working out of her in-home studio, Alexa Fuhrman-Sherman is celebrating the relocation of her business to downtown Bay City.
Fuhrman-Sherman owns and operates Boudoir by Alexa, a full-service boudoir photography studio. She begins working with her first client in the new studio this week.
"It’s a really great location in the heart of downtown. It’s not a storefront because we need privacy, but we’re on an upper floor so we can be located downtown but maintain that privacy," Fuhrman-Sherman says.
"I knew I wanted to be downtown. The city is up and coming and there’s so much redevelopment. The atmosphere here makes it really welcoming."
Fuhrman-Sherman offers boudoir photography services to individuals and couples, taking the photos and advising in poses and lingerie selection. Kaitlyn MacGregor, of Kaitlyn the Traveling Artist, is the hair and make-up artist.
In being a boudoir photographer, Fuhrman-Sherman says that the profession lets her combine two of her passions: photography and helping women build confidence in themselves.
She likens boudoir photography to a combination of 1980s-era glamour shots and classic pin-up photography. Offering personalized services, Fuhrman-Sherman works with clients to select the most complimentary poses and outfits for each.
To celebrate the new studio, Boudoir by Alexa will be hosting an open house on Sunday, May 19, where people can familiarize themselves with the boudoir photography studio and process.
"The open house lets people see the new space, ask questions, and get to know downtown," Fuhrman-Sherman says.
"I like to build relationships with my clients to help them build trust with me. Because I would be nervous doing this, too. This makes people feel comfortable."
