South Haven’s American Twisting expects to add employees

A company that specializes in a varied product line that includes making handles for paper bags and a special wrap to tie down tree limbs expects to add two to four employees to its staff of 34 in the near future.

American Twisting Co. of South Haven recently received a tax break on the purchase of $535,558 worth of new machinery. Company officials told the city the purchase would make it possible to retain its current staff and add up to four more at its 1675 Stieve Dr. operation.

Over 12 years, the company could expect to have an estimated tax break of $24,484.

American Twisting makes paper cords for the industrial wire, furniture and automobile industries. The company’s Am-Twist Division produces a line of twisted papers for the decorative crafts market. They come in 40 different colors and include twisted metallics and colored iridescents. They also create covered wire products used in floral, crafts and home decorative projects.

The manufacturing company can ship direct to retailers, making its products available to cottage industry craftspeople.

The new equipment will help employees dye paper products.

American Twisting has been family owned for more than 70 years.
