Richland Farmers Market offers online convenience

An online service that allows farmers to tell shoppers what produce they will find at the farmers market is coming to Richland.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Brook Wilke, co-manager of the market, said the new service is expected to benefit farmers because they will know what customers are looking for.  Market patrons in turn will know what fruit and vegetables will be available.

LocalOrbit.com is a website that allows farmers to post each week the types of produce that will be available. Customers can visit the website and either order for delivery, or order and pick up at the farmers market.

“We see it as being really beneficial to farmers who have seconds of something, maybe some strawberries that someone wants for canning,” Wilke said.
