More than 100 staff at Family Health Center gathered to take a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in honor of George Floyd and to promote racial justice and equity. The vigil is called White Coats for Black Lives, which is associated with a national advocacy group of health care professionals addressing racism as a public health concern.

Family Health Center staff members were to kneel together for the precise amount of time that George Floyd was held under the knee of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, leading to Floyd’s death. Family Health Center hopes this vigil sends a message to the community of its support for those whose lives have been impacted by racial injustice and a message that racial inequity has no place in health care or in any corner of our society.

The vigil took place Friday, June 5, at 2:40 p.m. at the Paterson campus, 17 W. Paterson.
