A start-up that’s created software applications to help ambulance service providers and hospital facility managers streamline their operations has become the most recent company to find a home in the Western Michigan University Business, Technology and Research Park.

Traumasoft has opened a 4,000-square-foot office in the Granite Park I Building, located at 4664 Campus Drive.

The company is hiring and has added four new positions in recent weeks, bringing its staff to 12. Three recent hires have come to Kalamazoo from Arizona, South Carolina and the Upper Peninsula. Traumasoft officials say they expect to at least double the size of the company within two years.

The new location for Traumasoft offices will facilitate its work with computer science faculty and WMU engineers who specialize in streamlining hospital operations.

Company President Brian Balow founded Traumasoft in 2006 after spending more than 25 years in the emergency medical services industry in Southwest Michigan. Experience told him there was a need for automation in EMS operations, so he started building EMS applications on a small scale in his spare time in 1998.

His goal was to develop applications that would allow ambulance companies to streamline their operations and improve their service.

Traumasoft released its first major application in September after beta testing at several ambulance companies around the country. The product now is being used by ambulance companies in eight states, and Traumasoft’s clients include one of Northern California’s largest ambulance providers.

Traumasoft’s offers a cloud computing model so its customers can access an entire suite functions through a simple Internet connection.

“Because our applications are completely integrated and the pricing is straightforward, ‘One company, One solution, One price’ has become our mantra,” Balow says.
