It’s no longer necessary for those using the Kal-Haven trail to pay for it, reports MLive.

Van Buren County officials announced recently they have eliminated the daily and seasonal fee.

Funding for trail maintenance once again will come from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, officials said.

Daily and seasonal fees generated $95,000 a year for maintenance on Kal-Haven Trail and the 14 mile Van Buren Trail between South Haven and Hartford, Mitchell said. Ninety percent of the money came from passes for the Kal-Haven Trail. The trail was used an estimated 151,000 times in 2010.
