Then again charter school offered by Berrien Springs Public Schools is held to the same standards of any other Michigan public school.

Rudyard “Rudy” Peterson graduated from the 3-year-old Virtual Academy in May with 23 other graduates. The Kalamazoo resident is a cyclist who chose the academy because of his hectic training schedule.

Excerpt: “The virtual school helped me take my day in stages, whereas in public school I had to ride either really early or really late at night,” said Peterson. Not having a prom and only seeing his friends on the weekends was not a big deal to Peterson. “I guess it’s kind of a let-down. It’s just a price to pay,” he said. “It’s a bummer for someone who is a little more social than me.”
