A romp through the mud to promote health here and abroad

Getting dirty doesn't begin to describe it. Kalamazoo's first Mud Run was all that. It also raised an estimated $30,000, surpassing its goal by $5,000, to cover the cost of an automated well in Bulenga, Uganda. Erik Holladay has pictures.

Looks like lots of people want to play in mud puddles. The Kalamazoo Mud Run, a 5k Mud Run and obstacle event, where the goal is fitness, tons of fun and getting covered in mud drew a capacity of 1,200 participants and filled up days before the event. It also featured a Kid’s Mud Run and a run for four-person teams. A competitive run and a just for fun dash through the ooze were all part of the fundraising event. All proceeds from the mud run go to build an automated well in Bulenga, Uganda. Sponsors donated cash and in-kind gifts that completely covered the organizer’s cost ito create the obstacles and course, marketing, T-shirts, food, water and related expenses.
