Campus Beet moves toward student run cafe

A student run cafe that will offer students a place of their own, food for students who want certain kinds of food and as a way to support the local food movement is in the works.

More than 500 people from across Western Michigan University’s campus and Kalamazoo turned out to support Campus Beet, a group working to establish a student run cafe.

As part of the event, there were 12 locally sourced dishes available that fit a variety of dietary needs.

Guests who came through the door were able to check out a student art show, craft vendors, and stop by the Campus Beet booth selling recycled T-shirts, pins, and canvas bags.

Entertainment included a jazz trio called Primary Colors, poetry from writers in Onomatopoeia, and acoustic music by Taylor Clark.

Next for the group is to finalize its business plan by finishing market research, making financial projections, finalizing labor structure, and compile data from the survey conducted at our event.

The group is putting finishing touches on its menu as it finds, testis, and prices recipes. Campus Bee will have a number of recruitment and fundraising events throughout the summer.
