Silver Spoon Coffee House to open in Shepherd

Shepherd's first and only coffee shop, Silver Spoon Coffee House, is opening soon.  

Owners Dean Mitchell and his wife Jamie also own Mitchell’s Gourmet Deli and Market, located next to Silver Spoon on E. Wright Avenue. They anticipate the coffee house will be ready to open sometime within the next few weeks.  

“I want a place for people to gather again, a sense of community that everything's going to be okay because everybody stresses and everybody worries,” says Jamie Mitchell. “If there's a need that needs to be filled, at least you have a place you can go and have community. I love coming in and hearing people's laughter and talking — everybody's just one big family.”

Dean Mitchell says they searched extensively to find the best coffee they could find. They decided to source Silver Spoon’s coffee from a provider in Grand Rapids and using a blend of water will be able to offer a smooth cup of coffee.

“We're not using hard-water or city water,” says Dean Mitchell. “We figured out how to get the actual perfect blend of water. The perfect blend of coffee goes right down to how many grams of coffee goes into each cup. It's a pretty specific science on how to make that real good cup of coffee.”

In addition to coffee, Silver Spoon will offer homemade desserts and sandwiches on its menu. Other beverages such as flavored teas and lemonades will be available during the summer, and customers can choose to sit inside or outside.

Silver Spoon will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays.
