What's happening: Visit Keweenaw wants to break the Guiness World
Record for most people in a Plaidurday photo and has planned an event at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Houghton High School Football Field. This is not a made-up day; Plaidurday was first observed in 2011 and is held on the first Friday of October.
Who's invited: All are invited and welcome from near and far to
participate in this celebration.
What to do: Wear your “Yooper Finest,” a.k.a. something plaid – whether that be your best hunter red flannel or your favorite plaid jacket and head over to the Houghton High School Football Field. Plaidurday, as you might have guessed, is the worldwide celebration of plaid.
The record: Visit Keweenaw is pushing to beat a Canadian Plaidurday photo record from 2019, where 1,359 people gathered in northwestern Ontario. Keweenaw Plaidurday looks to set the record straight in Michigan’s northernmost peninsula and demonstrate our strong sense of Yooper Pride. 1,360 people would break the Ontario record.
Other preparation: Visit Keweenaw ordered 2,000 branded silicone wristbands as a keepsake for participants and for a head count at the event. Brockit inc. is taking the photo – capturing the fun, excitement and smiling, plaid-wearing people. The city of Houghton is helping facilitate the event and coordinate outreach. Guiness
World Records has been notified and invited to the event.
