New fund will help students in need

Janice Masters, a retired teacher, recently founded the Rose Community Project Fund, a program which will help students anonymously receive the essentials they need to be successful in school, reports the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Through the program, which will start in Lakeview schools in the 2010-11 school year, educators will identify students they see as needing a particular item or financial assistance and inform the Rose Community Project Fund. Using money from donations, the fund will fill the need, without ever knowing the child’s identity.

Excerpt:

“There are all kinds of needs out there,” Masters said. “Families are in such a needy place that they can’t afford their insurance co-pay or glasses. That’s where we’ll come in.”

The program is named after Masters’ mother, Rose Green, a single mother raising two daughters who never hesitated to help another regardless of her own struggles.
