MLive: Family Fishing Fair draws 600

It was young Reid Wagster’s first Portage Family Fishing Fair on Saturday, and while the 3-year-old didn’t have much to say, his proud dad Sean was delighted to teach his son how to fish. “He’s never been fishing before,” said Sean Wagster, of Portage, told MLive as his son smiled while getting help from his father to cast a few feet away. “I wanted to be with him for his first fishing experience.”
 
Excerpt: They were among more than 600 people who turned out for the fourth annual Portage Parks and Recreation’s Family Fishing Fair at Ramona Park. The park was rocking with more than 20 exhibitors, families attempting to get a free fishing pole courtesy of United Water, a chance to meet professional angler Jonathon VanDam, do some fishing along the beach on Long Lake, try out a kayak or stand-up paddleboard courtesy of Lee’s Adventure Sports or learn about the environment from the Portage Environmental Board, Park Board or the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
