Rock for Kids fest will benefit children in need of support

The summer is winding down, but the summer festivals at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place keep on coming.

This weekend, Rock for Kids will raise funds to support children who have been abused and neglected. Funds will go to the Children’s Advocacy Center, a child-friendly, safe place where children who have been sexually abused go for help.

If a child has been sexually abused, or an adult suspects that a child has been sexually abused, he or she is referred to the Children’s Advocacy Center at the Community Healing Centers. Referrals are made by by protective services workers, the police, or concerned adults in the child’s life.

Rock for Kids is a two-day benefit rock concert featuring national rock bands Blue Oyster Cult, and Starship, featuring Mickey Thomas.  

The event features a jam session for kid rockers from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. High school bands begin performing at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. National acts take the stage in the evening.

Rock for Kids takes place from 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20 – 21 at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place in Downtown Kalamazoo, located between Edwards Street and Rose Street. Tickets are $6 at 4 p.m. and $10 after 6 p.m. (Picture identification required for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.)

The event is hosted by Wright for Kids, a nonprofit organization, and will feature food vendors, beverages and music.
