Holiday sales were good and they’ve bouyed the optimism of local retailers in St. Joseph.

The Herald-Palladium reports business owners and store managers are offering anecdotal evidence that business is inching back to pre-recession levels.

Excerpt:

“Our stores had a great holiday season, and they’re enjoying seeing the repeat customers. This will be a better year,” predicted Michelle Grimm, marketing director for the Orchards Mall in Benton Township. “There is a great vibe going on. It is stepping up.”

Grimm said two new businesses opened at the mall just before Thanksgiving: the This-N-That store and Lakeside Books.
