Renaissance fair for costume lovers everywhere

Each year the Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire transforms Kimball Pines Park in Emmett Township into a scene straight from the Renaissance period, reports the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Now in its 19th year, the festival will provide an escape for an estimated 30,000 people this summer, volunteer coordinator Samantha Duke said.

“We hope that people have a magical, memorable experience here,” she said. “Something warm that they will keep with them for years.”

Excerpt:

Jeanene Nickell, 54, of Sturgis and Matt Nickell, 27, of Constantine waited in the sun for a jousting competition to begin on Saturday morning.

They attend other renaissance festivals, but Silver Leaf is one of the best, Jeanene Nickell said.

“They stay in character better,” Nickell said. “It’s not quite as commercial as some of them.”
