Reedy Corp. rolls out the fun in downtown Entertainment District

The 300 block of East Michigan Avenue, already a destination for fun, fun, fun just added a new reason to head downtown.
District Square is a 13,000-square-foot outdoor bar complete with a 1,000-square-foot balcony that allows patrons to look out over the restaurant and music venue there.

District Square is the fourth venue in the block of East Michigan Avenue between Pitcher and Edwards streets to be opened by Reedy Corp. It seats about 200 people. There’s dancing and stand-up room in the venue that allows patrons to freely move into Wild Bull Saloon.

The block also includes Monaco Bay Piano Bar and Grill, Wild Bull Saloon & Steakpit and the SkyDeck.

Each of the four venues has its own unique features and menu. The result is people from all demographics find something they enjoy, says Traver McLaughlin, of Reedy Corp. People can check out the high-energy hangouts or sit back around its fire pits to talk.

The SkyDeck, a 5,000-square-foot rooftop lounge, six stories up atop the Rosenbaum Building, has proved a popular addition to the district. “What people keep telling me is when they are on the SkyDeck they don’t feel like they’re in Kalamazoo,” says McLaughlin. “They feel like they’re getting the VIP atmosphere without the snobbishness that usually comes with VIP treatment. And the views are spectacular.”

The company’s investment downtown has grown till it now employs more than 100 people, from front-office administrators and venue managers to kitchen and wait staff. It’s looking for more.

McLaughlin says the outdoor fun in the Entertainment District will continue through October. He particularly recommends the pizza at District Square, a pie he contends is the city’s best. Admission to all four venues is free before 9 p.m. The cover charge is $5 after 9 p.m.
