South Haven unhappy with cuts in Pure Michigan campaign

If Travel Michigan officials are right, one billion dollars in tax revenue and 140,000 jobs could also be in jeopardy if the Pure Michigan campaign falls by the wayside, reports WWMT Channel 3.

Pure Michigan, the award-winning ad campaign promoting tourism in Michigan, has been canceled for the fall. Its organizers say future campaigns are in jeopardy.

South Haven Visitor’s Bureau officials are among those who wish the state would see fit to fund the program.

In South Haven, summer tourism is winding down, the sidewalks are emptying and the beaches are going bare, but the visitors bureau knows it can’t afford to lose Pure Michigan.

“It’s difficult because a lot of CVBs don’t have the budget individually and we really rely on Travel Michigan to help support our message,” said Lisa Shanley, Exec. Dir. South Haven Visitor’s Bureau.
