O-A-K announces 3 new projects across Southwest Michigan

Local professional construction firm Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. (O-A-K), has been hired to complete three new projects in Southwest Michigan.

Since opening its Kalamazoo office in 2013 the company has maintained a steady workflow of projects covering a broad range of industries, including manufacturers, faith-based organizations and schools.

The three new projects are:

• A $1 million processing facility renovation for A.M. Todd, a Division of ADM/WILD Flavors and Specialty Ingredients on Douglas Avenue in Kalamazoo. A.M. Todd is a the world’s oldest and largest supplier of American peppermint and spearmint oil. It is a plant-based science company. Byce & Associates, Inc. is serving as the architect on the project.

• Pre-Construction planning and guidance for a roughly $2.2 million renovation to its historic 1920s English Gothic sanctuary and church building for First Congregational Church of Kalamazoo. The project is in the preliminary stages of design, with fundraising expected to begin this fall. InForm Architecture is the architectural partner.

• A $14 million bond project for Paw Paw Public Schools approved by voters on Aug. 5, 2014. O-A-K is Construction Manager for the project, with architectural partner, Kingscott Associates. The project will include district-wide remodeling, secure entry vestibules, instructional technology, additional technology infrastructure and instructional equipment.  Construction will begin in April 2015 and is scheduled for completion in September 2017.

The Grand Rapids-based company with 122 years of history, Owen-Ames-Kimball, expanded into Kalamazoo in Nov. 2013 and located on the ground floor of the Haymarket Building, 161 E. Michigan Ave.  O-A-K is an employee-owned firm. Most of the project superintendents and project managers who manage daily operations of the firm’s construction projects are owners of the company, invested personally and professionally in the success of each project.
