The city of Mt. Pleasant recently passed a non-discrimination law, which is designed to be more inclusive of LGBT community members, banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. It's one of a growing number of Michigan cities to do so.
Excerpt: Marie Reimers, a sophomore at Central Michigan University was one of dozens of people who came to the Mt. Pleasant City Commission meeting on July 9 to see the passing of the City's inclusive human rights ordinance. The ordinance prohibits discrimination in housing, employment and accommodations against people based on many factors, including sexual orientation and gender identity. Mt. Pleasant is now the 19th in the state to pass such an ordinance.
