Northville proceeds with town square planning

The Northville Downtown Development Authority has selected the Farmington Hills-based planning firm McCarthy and Smith Inc. to manage the improvements to the Bandshell Park area across the street from the Main Street Clock.

On Feb. 5, council members authorized the board to seek a construction manager for the town square project following their approval of the conceptual design plan submitted in December by consultant Grissim, Metz, Andriese and Associates. The complete $4.1 million downtown makeover plan also included an improved streetscape, enhanced gateway to Ford Field and reconfigured Mary Alexander Court.

The town square expansion project will stretch park area from Main Street to Mary Alexander Court between Helen's Uptown Café and Rock on Main. For an estimated $1.7 million, the concept Grissim Metz drafted outlines replacement of angled parking spaces and the gingerbread bandshell with a flexible entertainment arena dotted with large trees and a fixed performance platform.
