Northville will invest $1.6 million into a beautified downtown that officials believe will make it more competitive with other shopping districts.
Excerpt:
The plan calls for the expansion of the existing town square, which
looks small, dated and plain. The expanded square will be 26,800 square
feet, more than twice the current size.
The square will be lined with trees. The plans include a fountain with
terraced seating, a butterfly structure band shell made of steel and
glass and a system of cables with vines growing along them.
Instead of grass, the area in front of the band shell will have big
planters and be able to seat 300 to 350 people for concerts, films and
other activities. The 15-foot, 7-inch Clock Tower on Main Street will
be moved from its current location and placed on a 3-foot base in the
square.
