The Town Square development in downtown Northville is picking up speed and expected to be finished by the end of September in time for the city’s annual Victorian Festival.
The Northville City Council has approved the conceptual plans for the plaza expansion, a construction manager has been hired and the project is expected to be put out to bid by the end of April with construction beginning shortly after.
The Town Square project will expand an existing downtown plaza on Main Street between Center and Hutton streets to 28,600 square feet. It will effectively doubling the public space by replacing an adjacent parking lot. There will be a band shell, trees and increased green space.
“It would give it sort of a European feel so people can enjoy it more,” said Lori Ward, director of the Northville Downtown Development Authority.
The $1.4-million project is being paid for with funds from the Northville Downtown Development Authority. Northville-based Grissim, Mets, Andriese Associates have done the architectural work and Farmington Hills-based McCarthy & Smith Inc will handle the construction work.
