Equipment manufacturer Metal Mechanics, Inc. has announced that it will bring seven new jobs to Southwest Michigan as part of a $1.25 million investment in the area.

The Schoolcraft manufacturer is investing in a 30,000-square-foot building to expand its existing operations. The expansion recently received approval from the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners.

Metal Mechanics sought and received tax increment financing, which diverts future property tax revenue increases from a defined area toward a public improvement project, in this case to restore property that is a contaminated former lumber treatment site. The Kalamazoo County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority supported the manufacturer’s plan to spend $80,000 to restore the property.

The Village of Schoolcraft also supported the project with a 12-year industrial facilities tax abatement on the company’s real property investment.

Metal Mechanics specializes in trim presses for the metal casting industry with an in-house fabrication department. Since 1971, the company has provided trim presses with a focus on flexibility and customer service.

“Metal Mechanics has been a staple in Kalamazoo County for nearly 50 years,” says Ron Kitchens, president and chief executive officer of Southwest Michigan First. “Its investment into a brand new manufacturing operation solidifies its continued commitment to growing business and employment in the area.”
