Work assisting companies in designing the trials and studies that drug and device makers must go through to pass Food and Drug Administration requirements is making a name for Innovation Analytics Inc. of Kalamazoo.

The company recently was recognized as one of the 2011 “Michigan 50 Companies to Watch,” an awards program sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation, which spotlights businesses with between six and 99 employees and 750,000 and $50 million in annual revenue — the companies the foundation sees as the state’s powerhouses for job creation. To be considered, a company must be a privately held, commercial enterprise that is growing and has made it past the start-up phase.

Innovative Analytics Inc., founded in 2003, hired former employees of Pharmacia who left the company after it merged with Pfizer. The company now has 20 full-time employees and six contract workers.

Its clients primarily are pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies who are developing therapies and devices that require regulatory approval for use in humans.

Innovative Analytics is now working with those developing drugs in the areas of oncology, muscular dystrophy, endocrinology and renal therapeutics, and on several medical device trials.

Innovative Analytics, Inc. provides data management, medical writing and statistical analysis services for research trials required to get a drug or device to market. The company reports 90 percent of its clients are from outside of Michigan.

“Innovative Analytics typically is viewed as a high-value research partner and that has clearly served the company well,” says Patty Ruppel, company co-founder.
