Ice Bowl raises funds for food bank

A temperature dipped to about 10 degrees and a wind chill approaching zero did not slow down disc golf players devoted to making a difference for the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports dozens turned out in Irving Park for Ice Bowl 2011. The event was Battle Creek’s take on an international effort to raise awareness of hunger issues. Along with a cash registration fee, participants were asked to bring food donations for the food bank.

Warm clothing is a must for disc golf this time of year, but most players will remove the glove from their throwing hand to increase precision as they attempt to land a disc inside a metal basket.

There’s also the risk of losing a disc in the snow, so players attach tails of ribbon to make the discs easier to find.
