For anyone who wonders what the Harbor Shores partners accomplished in the past year they have an answer.

At a recent event the partners — Cornerstone Alliance, the Consortium for Community Development and the Whirlpool Foundation — identified their successes over the past year.

One of the highlights is that work on the 12.2 mile trail system has begun and is ahead of schedule. Harbor Shores is working to obtain the necessary permits to continue developing the complete trail system.

Habor Shores also established an operations fund to support Jean Klock Park and makes a lease payment to the City of Benton Harbor for the land under the golf holes in the park as a means of subsidizing operations at Jean Klock.

The Consortium for Community Development supported the grand opening of the golf course at Harbor Shores by coordinating 17 free events over five days. They included five concerts and an art fair. A picnic, jump rope contest, cooking contest and baseball, soccer and basketball games also were part of the celebration. At least 2,000 community members participated.

Area youth also came out ahead in the past year. In addition to the $1 million raised in support of the Boys & Girls Club and The First Tee,  52 Boys & Girls Club members attended the at the opening ceremonies and golf clinic, 11 Boys & Girls Club members were present at the 18th green ceremony, and 40 Boys & Girls Club members participated in the Jean Klock Park Beach field trip.

Accomplishments reaching throughout many other parts of the business community also were realized.

The Harbor Shores partners are supported by the project master developer, Evergreen Development, as well as Kemper Sports, who has been hired to manage the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
