Doing good: Raising roofs and financial support

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When you bring together beer, fundraising and supporters of Habitat for Humanity, what do you get? They’re calling it Habi Hour.

Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity will have its first end-of-the-work-day fundraiser from 5:01 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the new Back Room at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe, 355 E. Kalamazoo Avenue, Kalamazoo.

Bell’s signature beers and appetizers will be served. Guests will receive a commemorative Habi Hour beer stein. They must be 21 years old to participate. Half of the ticket cost is tax deductible.

The event will feature a live auction of donated packages including corporate suite tickets for 12 to a Detroit Tigers game compliments of DTE Energy, a week’s accommodations for eight at the new Cherry Street Retreat in South Haven courtesy of Fritz Financial, an escape to Grand Traverse Resort & Spa, an overnight stay at Little River Casino, and more.

A silent auction of items donated by local artists and businesses will complement the live auction. Music will be provided by The Kings of Romance.

Habi Hour tickets are $30  and are on sale at the Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity website.

“Habi Hour will help us raise some funds as we celebrate old friendships and make new friends, too,” says Don Jones, Habitat’s executive director.

Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity (KVHH) builds or rehabilitates seven to eight homes each year in Kalamazoo County, plus the cities of Otsego and Plainwell, and Gun Plain and Otsego townships.
