Battle Creek’s biggest event takes flight
Balloons inflate, float and even glow during the biggest event of the year for Battle Creek. It’s the 2010 Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival set to get under way July 1. The event will be on the grounds and in the air over W.K. Kellogg Airport.
For the next three days Battle Creek will be host to at least 47 balloons, their pilots and crew. But that’s only half the equation for this family friendly event.
On Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:30 p.m. the air show will feature acrobatic planes, a U.S. Airforce F-22 Raptor Stealth Fighter, an AV-8B Harrier, and flying demonstration by the VFA-106 F18 Hornet. Part of the show will be formation flying with an F-4, a Vietnam-era fighter.
Planes will be seen on display as part of the weekend celebration. There will be a carnival midway and vendors on the grounds. Flea Market Vendors will be in place and there also are plenty of places to eat. Those who need assistance can ride a shuttle across the grounds.
Daily admission and parking is good for the entire day. Patrons are invited to come and go as they please — though parking spots will not be saved for them.
Fireworks will wrap up the event late Sunday night.
