Second Look: Chinese New Year comes in like a lion

Second Wave photographer Erik Holladay finds a local community connecting with its roots in a Chinese New Year celebration.

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Kalamazoo Lion Dance Troupe celebrated the Chinese Year of the Dragon by performing a dragon dance at the Kalamazoo Central Library.

A large crowd of moms, dads, and children gathered to see the dancers and hear the folktale of “The Golden Reed Pipe,” a folktale about a brave boy who saves his sister from a dragon.

The event wrapped up with three colorful lions performing the Lion Dance.
