Injured weekend warriors have new option for care

A clinic set up with treatment for injuries under the Friday night lights is now being offered in Portage.

Borgess Sports Medicine now offers a sports injury walk-in clinic specifically design to get young athletes back on the playing field.

The clinic offers concussion evaluation, full X-ray services, splinting, casting and bracing. Rehabilitation and return-to-play guidelines also will be provided.

The clinic is open 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturdays from Aug. 28 to Nov. 20, hours chosen to assist middle and high school students injured during Friday night sporting events. All children and teens are welcome, however.

Borgess reports roughly 3 million sports related injuries occur each year among the 30 million children and teens nationwide who participate in organized sports.

No appointment is necessary, but patients should register by 9 a.m. Parents are asked to bring insurance information. If a patient’s insurance requires a referral prior to treatment an appointment can be scheduled for Monday.

The Sports Injury Walk-in Clinic is at Borgess at Woodbridge Hills-North, 7901 Angling Road.
