Former resident helps keep Burr Oak alive
St. Joseph County’s smallest incorporated community is in store for a major improvement, thanks to a state grant and a commitment from a former resident, reports the Sturgis Journal.

Bill MacDaniels, a farmer who lives on the Branch County side of the county line with St. Joseph County, has agreed to put up $200,000 of his own money to equal an amount offered by the state for improvements of a historic building on the west side of Third Street.
The building – at 230 and 232 Third Street – is more than 100 years old and is an anchor in Burr Oak’s small downtown. … MacDaniels said he hopes to restore the exterior of the building to its original appearance.
