Have a great holiday, come back in June

Several times a year, Southwest Michigan's Second Wave takes a break to rejuvenate and look ahead. Next week, with the Memorial Day Holiday to lead off, is one of those breaks.

Summer activities begin in earnest in the next week. So much is planned they had to come up with a name to fit a full weekend of fun.

The first weekend in June is now the June Jubilee, complete with the Annual Art Fair in Bronson Park sponsored by the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the DoDah parade of parodies and spoofs on Super Saturday, and the area’s first competitive mud run, a chance to help raise money for clean water in Uganda. Plus another nine events. And that’s just Kalamazoo.

Elsewhere, the Calhoun County Visitor’s and Convention Bureau has launched a geocaching challenge, Cache Calhoun, and it challenges you to uncover the hidden caches. The course will have you walking through woods, solving puzzles in a cemetery, and going to new heights.

All of this is to say that we will be reserving our energy next week in anticipation of so much fun to come. Southwest Michigan’s Second Wave will not publish May 31. There will be Facebook and Twitter updates throughout the hiatus just because we can never unplug completely. We will be back June 7 with new pictures, stories and a whole new summery attitude.
