Meet Patrick Whittaker, owner of Sushi Remix

This edition of People of Midland features Patrick Whittaker, owner of Sushi Remix. Combining his background in sales and culinary arts, Patrick has brought a fresh and exciting dining experience to Midland while staying committed to the community he and his family now call home.

Patrick’s journey to owning Sushi Remix began during his time in sales, where he supplied food to the original owners of the Bay City location. “I loved their concept,” Patrick shares. “I kept telling my wife, ‘We need one of these in Midland.’”

ast March, Patrick got the opportunity to take over the business, giving him the chance to fulfill the dream of bringing Sushi Remix to this vibrant city. The decision to invest in Midland, however, was about more than just business.

“We had opportunities to move, but we love this city for its family-friendly environment and outstanding schools. Midland’s public schools were a big reason why we chose to stay,” Patrick explains.

Since taking over, Patrick has focused on introducing Sushi Remix to the Midland community, adding variety to the local dining scene with poke bowls and boba tea, something Patrick describes as “fun, fresh, and different.” He’s especially proud of the warm reception from the community. “The dining room is always filled with a variety of people, which is exactly what we hoped for,” he says.

To bring the concept to life, Patrick partnered with local businesses like Aviator Cookie Company and Great Lakes Bay Construction, ensuring the space reflected his vision. “We didn’t just want to fill a space; we wanted to create a flagship location that embodies our values and stands out,” he adds.

Looking ahead, Patrick envisions expanding Sushi Remix to other locations, starting in Michigan. “We’re growing thoughtfully, but Midland will always be an important part of our story,” he says. For Patrick, the journey is about more than just food—it’s about contributing to the vibrancy of a city that has given so much to his family.
